Some 17% of young people consider hospitality as a top three career choice, according to new research by Hilton and International Youth Foundation.

The survey questioned 7,600 millenials aged 16-24 about what factors drove their potential career choices. Some 57% of respondents said that a flexible work-life balance was what they looked for in a job, while 30% wanted a career that gave them the opportunity to move to different regions and countries.

One in five of those asked (19%) said they were more likely to take a job which allowed them to volunteer or work towards a mission. Internship and apprenticeship opportunities were cited by 19% as an important factor.

Ben Bengougam, senior vice president, HR, Europe, said: “Young people want more than just a traditional job – whether it is international career expansion opportunities, world class training programmes or volunteering towards a wider social and environmental cause.

“There is a global crisis of youth unemployment and we are committed to highlighting the opportunities in hospitality.”
