Marylebone welcomes a new upscale store, bakery and deli – Boxcar Baker & Deli is now open.

After the success of Boxcar Butcher & Grill (a butcher-slash-restaurant in Marylebone), the team launch their second neighbourhood spot with a focus on British produce and baked goods. Boxcar Baker & Deli might just make it onto our guide to the best bakeries in London…

The Spot:

Located on the corner of Crawford Street and Wyndham Place, Boxcar Baker & Deli is a prime people-watching spot, with an outdoor terrace welcoming you for al fresco dining. The store revolves around British produce from independent retailers across the country, so you can expect cheese by The Fine Cheese Co, honey by The London Honey Company and of course, meat and poultry from Boxcar Butcher. The smell of homemade baked goods and other freshly made daytime fare is likely to draw in a crowd during breakfast and lunch…

The Food:

While the deli counter is decidedly British with sausage rolls and pies, Boxcar’s pastries and cakes takes cues from Sweden – think almond cakes and sweet cinnamon rolls. You can start your day with berry bowls, pretzel bagels and coddled eggs, or enjoy one of the many healthy salads and sandwiches for lunch. Evening fare is just as delightful, offering a tapas-style menu with seasonal produce as well as flatbreads.

The Drinks:

Complementing the daytime offerings, Boxcar Baker & Deli serves seasonal cold-pressed juices, energy shots and coffee, while the evening menu welcomes English wines, local craft beers and ciders.

The Damage:

Sandwiches and bowls range from £4.50 to £7; pastries cost around £3-£4.

In a Nutshell:

With so many different things on offer – from homemade goods to locally-sourced groceries to pastries and wine – Boxcar Baker & Deli is all set to be a new neighourhood favourite.
