A new Mental Health initiative designed for the Hospitality sector

Launched 5th May, the now pause initiative offers a free, practical, self-care toolkit to help keep your mental health in shape. The project is the brainchild of Craig Prentice, founder of mum, the hospitality talent solutions business, who has created this initiative in collaboration with Peter Kerwood, a marketing freelancer.

Craig explained:

β€œToday, more than ever, we need to find time to pause. now pause helps us to do just that – pause and reset.”

The programme has been designed by wellbeing coach Andrew Johnson, who has created a series of podcasts, including learning how to relax, sleep deeply, stay positive and live less stressfully.

I’m delighted to play a part in this much needed project,” commented Andrew.

β€œIn these strange days, we all need a little more grounding, relaxation and better sleep. I’m very happy that my recordings will be helping people with this.”

The project has plenty of industry support.

Mark Lewis, CEO of Hospitality Action, said of the initiative:

β€œThe project offers a practical self-care toolkit, created specifically for the hospitality sector during this difficult time.”

Chris Gamm, editor of The Caterer stated:

β€œThe Caterer is fully behind this enterprising wellbeing project, aimed squarely at the hospitality industry where it’s very much needed.”

Neil Pattison, director of, concurred:

β€œ is a wellbeing initiative created to help those in our industry at this challenging time. This support is crucial for hospitality people at every level, so they can take care of themselves and their people, now and in the months to come”

Jo Simovic, chief operating officer at Umbrella Training, praised now pause:

β€œGood mental health is so important. This initiative is just what the hospitality industry needs at this stressful time. We wholeheartedly support it.”

Kate Nicholls, CEO of UK Hospitality, concluded: β€œOur sector is experiencing something quite unprecedented, resulting in enormous stress and anxiety. offers welcome relief.”

We’re launching a Quarantine Cocktail competition, where we’re asking mixologists, amateurs and professionals alike, to create a cocktail with whatever they have in their home – ideally something the rest of us can try too. There’ll be a Β£50 Amazon voucher for the best, as well as the knowledge that you’re doing your bit to keep the joy of discovery (that we’re all missing right now) alive.

The rules are simple:

  • Only use ingredients you already have in your house
  • Name your quarantine cocktail
  • Tag @placedapp in your video on instagram and use #quarantinecocktails and #stayhome hashtags

The hospitality industry brings so much to our lives and these last few weeks has got me crying out for a cheeky cocktail. Let’s show the people what they are missing and give them a dose of what they really need. We all have a bartender in us somewhere so let’s help everyone find theirs.
