3 Women Killing It in the Service Sector ⚔️

Happy International Women’s Day! For the Month of March we’re celebrating all the inspiring and lovely women out there living their best lives and keeping the world moving!

The service sector comprises industries such as Retail, Hospitality, Logistics, Care and more – essentially all jobs that require providing services to customers. While these industries are increasingly becoming more diverse in employees, there is still a huge gap in women working in more senior positions.

For those looking for some relatable stories from inspiring women who are killing it, along with some words of wisdom and advice, here’s some of our favorite chats:

Beki Galvin, General Manager at PizzaExpress

We chatted to Beki Galvin, General Manager at PizzaExpress in Telford who’s highly passionate about her hospitality career. Starting off in pubs after finishing uni, Beki made the transition to restaurants as an Assistant Manager before working her way up to General Manager.

For her, hospitality started as a job she just needed, but has grown to be a career she truly loves.

Hear all about how she worked her way up, and what she loves most about hospitality here.

Sam Togwell, Dual Site Hotel Manager at hub by Premier Inn

Next up is Sam Togwell who, much like Beki, started off as a waitress as a casual thing. However, after earning her own money and realising she loved what she did, she never went back!

Since working for hub by Premier Inn, Sam’s worked a variety of different roles from reception to Food & Beverage, and eventually progressed to become a Dual Site Hotel Manager for the Soho and Covent Garden hubs.

Sam now loves to see those who work hard at her hotels flourish in their own careers! Read more of her interview here.

Brenda Andrini, Group Bar Manager, Granger & Co.

Last but not least, we had the pleasure of interviewing Brenda Andrini, who went from Barista to Bar Manager of of all 4 London Granger & Co. venues.

Starting off with making coffee (with not a lot of prior experience), Brenda quickly learnt how much she enjoyed just that and got more and more involved! Her passion for her job grew, but it was only after joining Granger & Co. that she decided to make a real career out of hospitality.

Brenda revealed that the work environments she’d come from were very male-led, and only guys seemed to be applying for the Bar Manager role at Granger & Co… but after receiving support from her manager, she went after the role. And look where she is now! Read more about her story here.
