You follow your favourite accounts on Instagram. You follow your favourite channels on YouTube. Maybe you even follow your favourite sellers on Amazon. Well now you can follow your dream employers on Placed – and gain a competitive edge for doing so. Below, we take you through how our new Follow feature works and explain how you can use it to your advantage.
Why we introduced the Follow function
To tie in with our Way to Work campaign, which aims to support and empower candidates impacted by the pandemic, we’ve relaunched the Placed App with lots of handy new features. Follow is one of the features we’re most excited about, as it allows candidates and employers to connect with one another and stay in touch in a more meaningful way.
You don’t want to just work for any company, you want to work for a company with a good culture and one that’s a good fit for your individual skills and personality. This feature helps you discover who your dream employers are and be first in the queue when they start hiring.
How it works
It’s very simple. When you land on an employer page (another new feature) you will see a prompt urging you to ‘Follow’ – click that button and you will instantly be added to the company’s Placed feed. You can find employer pages through the ‘Brands’ portal or clicking through an individual job listing.
To keep track of who you’re following, go to ‘My Placed’ and click on to the ‘Following’ section. This will give you a scrollable list of your favourite employers. If for any reason you want to unfollow an employer, simply go to their brand page and click the yellow ‘Unfollow’ button.
Why it works
So now you know how it works, it’s time to explain how you can use the feature to your advantage.
Essentially, Follow benefits candidates in two ways. Firstly, it will ensure that you don’t miss out on any important updates or Placed content from that employer. Remember that interview you aced because you had taken the time to fully research the company and its culture? Well our Follow feature allows you to build up knowledge of your favourite employers over time, meaning that if you ever are in the running for a role you’ll already be one step ahead of the competition.
Secondly, by following an employer you will – for a limited period of time – get exclusive first-look access to any new job posts from that company. As in, you’ll be able to see them and, more importantly, apply before non-followers. Remember, hiring managers are under pressure to fill jobs fast, especially in service industries, so getting your application in promptly is always a good idea. You can never be too early to a job listing, but you can be too late.
Who to Follow
To get you started with using the feature, head over to the Placed app and click ‘Follow’ on some of these companies. Many of them will be recruiting in the next couple of months – which is why we’ve picked them – and by following them you’ll be automatically placed at the front of the queue.
