How to Create a Killer Jobseeker Profile

With brand new, enhanced jobseeker profiles, we’re walking you through how to craft your killer profile on Placed. Those with completed profiles are 90% more likely to be invited to interview by employers, so it’s vital you fill yours out if you want to beat the competition.

So here’s our advice, broken down by section, on filling out your profile to give you the best chance of securing the job you want!

1. Your Experience

This is pretty much what it says on the tin. If you’ve got some work experience, give a clear, concise overview of what your role was. It doesn’t have to be lengthy! Just offer an idea of what you did on a day-to-day basis. For example:

I was in charge of taking customers’ orders, delivering food & drink to guests in a timely manner, setting and clearing tables, and assisting the team in the opening and closing of the restaurant.

You can even give a bullet-pointed list per role, if you prefer. The key thing to remember is to get straight to the point, as this makes it easier for employers to digest the information.

If you DON’T have any experience, don’t sweat it! Those with no previous experience can definitely still get great jobs on Placed, and can (and should!) show off their skills and personality in other parts of their profile.

2. Your Skills

Here’s your time to shine! Users who fill in their skills on their profile are 1.5x more likely to be invited to interview. So, if you want to increase your chances of landing a job, make sure to select your skills from the easy drop-down menu.

Just below that, selecting skills that you want to develop is a great way to let employers know what your goals are. It indicates that you’re a go-getter and will go the extra mile to learn new things. This can also be an extra seller for those who don’t have much experience!

Lastly, add anything extra that might make you stand out in the ‘More about you’ section. This could be something that you do in your spare time that relates to the role, exposure you’ve had to the sector, something about your personality, or anything else that’s relevant.

For example:

I’m an extremely bubbly and outgoing person with great interpersonal skills, speak two languages: English (Mother Tongue) and Italian (Fluent) and am a part-time freelance Articulation & Vocal Coach!

I have completed two mixology courses and enjoy creating cocktails for friends and family in my spare time!

3. Your Criteria

Now, it’s time for YOU to get picky! Select (again, from the drop-down menus) what kind of company, industries and roles you’re interested in. The options match up directly with what’s available on Placed, so the algorithm can match you with the best jobs.

You’ll only see roles that are relevant to you, so make sure to keep this section updated!

At the bottom of this section is your availability. It’s important you fill this out so that employers know whether their roles are suitable for you. And again, it’ll affect which roles appear in your matches.

This is where your individuality comes in! Let employers know who you are using our handy-dandy list of traits ‘after work’ and ‘at work’.

It might not seem that relevant, but each company has their own values and attributes they look for when hiring (which you can learn more about via our quizzes and brand pages). So it helps employers imagine if you’d thrive in the type of work environment and culture they offer. Plus, the algorithm will pick up on it too.

Finally, the ‘Fun Fact’! We know being put on the spot for a ‘fun fact’ can be daunting sometimes… but it could be that little something someone remembers about your profile!

And we’ve sure seen some memorable fun facts! It can be related to your job search, but it doesn’t have to be – it could be a hobby, a funny moment, something crazy that happened when you were six – the possibilities are endless!

5. Final Advice

The most essential factor is to have a completely filled out profile. Employers can see at a glance whether someone’s profile is complete or not, and complete profiles instantly look more attractive.

Again, those with a complete profile are almost twice more likely to be invited to interview.

This includes all of the ‘About Me’ section, which will help create a more enriched, stand-out profile and match you with aligned employers.

So make sure you complete all of your profile to have the best chance of bagging the job you want!
